VDSL Internet Setup Guide (Dynamic IP)
This guide will help you set up your VDSL internet service using a standard modem/router. The process may vary slightly depending on the brand of equipment, but the general steps remain the same.
1. Equipment Needed
- VDSL modem/router (must support VDSL2)
- Power supply for modem/router
- Telephone cable (RJ11)
- Ethernet cable (RJ45)
- DSL filter/splitter (if required – for houses with telephone handsets connected to the same line)
2. Physical Connection
1. Connect to the wall socket
- Plug the telephone cable (RJ11) from the modem/router’s DSL port into the wall socket.
- If you are using a phone service on the same line, connect a DSL filter/splitter to avoid interference.
2. Power up the modem
- Connect the modem/router to power and turn it on.
- Wait for it to boot (usually 2–3 minutes).
3. Connect your device
- Use an Ethernet cable from the modem/router’s LAN port to your computer.
- Or connect via Wi-Fi using the default SSID and password printed on the modem/router’s labe
3. Modem/Router Configuration
1. Access the modem interface
- Open a web browser and enter the modem/router’s setup address (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
- Log in with the default username and password (usually printed on the modem/router).
2. Internet connection setup
- Go to WAN / Internet Settings / DSL Settings (names vary by brand).
- Select VDSL2 as the connection type.
- Set Connection Type or WAN Type to IPoE / Dynamic IP / Automatic IP.
- Ensure NAT and DHCP Server are enabled (for home networks).
3. Save and apply
- Save the settings.
- The modem will restart or reconnect.
4. Verification
1. Check DSL/Internet light
- The DSL/Link light should be steady (not flashing).
- The Internet/Online light should turn on once the connection is established.
2. Test browsing
- Open a browser and try accessing any website.
- If successful, your setup is complete.
5. Troubleshooting
No DSL light:
- Check cabling and filters.
- Ensure the modem is connected to the correct wall socket.
DSL light on but no Internet:
- Confirm the connection type is set to Dynamic IP / IPoE.
- Reboot the modem.
- Contact your ISP if the issue persists.
Slow speeds or dropouts:
- Ensure no unfiltered devices are on the line.
- Check with your ISP for line faults.
